Antagonism of the ghrelin receptor has recently been identified as a strategy for the treatment of metabolic diseases due to the involvement of ghrelin in the control of energy balance and appetite. Tranzyme is developing TZP-301, an oral ghrelin antagonist, for the treatment of metabolic diseases. The company intends to continue additional research into the safety and efficacy of these molecules.
